Nvidia Implements OpenAI's Codex AI Coding Assistant Across Entire Engineering Workforce
In a landmark enterprise deployment, Nvidia has rolled out OpenAI's sophisticated agentic coding tool, Codex, to all 30,000 of its engineers worldwide. This massive implementation represents one of the largest-scale enterprise adoptions of an AI coding assistant to date, as officially announced by OpenAI.
CEO Jensen Huang's Automation Mandate Drives Adoption
The company-wide deployment follows CEO Jensen Huang's clear directive to employees that he wants "every task that is possible to be automated with artificial intelligence to be automated." This aggressive push toward AI integration began with a November 2025 all-hands meeting where Huang reacted strongly to reports that some managers were discouraging AI use internally.
"Are you insane?" Huang told staff during that pivotal meeting, urging them to embrace AI tools even when they initially fall short of expectations. Huang has consistently argued that AI automates tasks rather than eliminating jobs, maintaining that a software engineer's fundamental purpose is solving problems rather than merely writing code.
Advanced Technical Capabilities and Engineering Praise
The latest version of Codex operates on the GPT-5.3-codex model, which Nvidia engineers are already praising for its exceptional ability to handle complex, multi-step workflows without losing context during extended sessions. OpenAI collaborated closely with Nvidia to deliver cloud-managed administrative controls and US-only processing with comprehensive fail-safes.
Dennis Hannusch, an engineer at Nvidia, shared his experience with the new model this week, calling it "reaaally good" in a post on X. "I keep expecting quality to drop deep into a session, but it doesn't," he wrote, highlighting the tool's consistent performance.
Another Nvidia engineer, Benjamin Klieger, expressed particular admiration for the tool's context management and token efficiency, describing these as "probably the two most important advances for agents right now."

Nvidia established an engineering mandate last year to embed artificial intelligence across every phase of its software development lifecycle. Beyond Codex, the company also utilizes Cursor, another AI coding platform, across its engineering teams. Huang has pointed to radiology as evidence of this principle, noting that despite predictions that AI would decimate the field, there are now more radiologists employed at higher salaries than before AI entered the picture.

Contrary to concerns about job displacement, Nvidia continues to expand its workforce aggressively. Huang informed employees that the company added several thousand people in a recent quarter and remains approximately 10,000 employees short of its target staffing levels.
"I promise you, you will have work to do," Huang assured staff, emphasizing that AI integration complements rather than replaces human talent. The company is establishing new offices across the United States and Asia, including locations in Shanghai and Taipei, to accommodate this growth.
