Over 1,200 Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India have integrated artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities into their operations, according to the latest findings. This marks a significant shift in the role of GCCs from traditional back-office functions to advanced technology hubs driving innovation.
As per the data, India currently hosts 2,117 GCCs operating across 3,728 units and employing approximately 2.36 million professionals as of the financial year 2025-26 (FY26). The centres span various sectors, including banking, financial services, insurance, technology, healthcare, and manufacturing.
Growth in GCC Ecosystem
The number of GCCs in India has grown steadily over the past decade, with many multinational corporations establishing or expanding their centres to leverage the country's talent pool. The adoption of AI and ML has been a key driver of this growth, enabling centres to automate processes, enhance decision-making, and develop new products and services.
AI and ML Integration
Over 1,200 GCCs now embed AI and ML capabilities, focusing on areas such as predictive analytics, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotic process automation. This trend is expected to accelerate as companies seek to harness data-driven insights and improve operational efficiency.
Employment and Skill Development
The GCC workforce in India is projected to grow further, with demand for skilled professionals in AI, ML, data science, and cloud computing. Many centres are investing in upskilling programmes and partnerships with academic institutions to build a future-ready talent pipeline.
Industry experts believe that India's GCC ecosystem will continue to evolve, with centres taking on more strategic roles in global operations. The integration of AI and ML is seen as a critical factor in maintaining competitiveness and driving business value.
