The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed its disappointment over the recurring NEET paper leak issue, stating, 'Sad they have not learnt their lessons.' The apex court was hearing a batch of pleas seeking the replacement of the National Testing Agency (NTA) with a more robust and autonomous body to conduct medical entrance examinations.
Court Seeks Detailed Responses
The bench directed the Centre, the NTA, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file their responses on the matter within two weeks. The court emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and accountability in the examination process.
Pleas for Overhaul of Examination System
The petitioners argued that the NTA has failed to ensure the integrity of the NEET exam, citing multiple instances of paper leaks and malpractices. They urged the court to establish an independent body with stringent security measures to prevent future breaches.
The Supreme Court's remarks come amid growing public concern over the credibility of high-stakes exams. The court noted that the repeated incidents of paper leaks undermine the trust of millions of students and their families.
The next hearing is scheduled for June 10, 2026. The court also hinted at the possibility of imposing stricter penalties on those found guilty of leaking exam papers.
