Director Matt Reeves has officially begun unveiling the cast for 'The Batman Part II', starting with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Bruce Wayne in the highly anticipated sequel. The filmmaker took to social media on Wednesday to announce the returning cast members from the original 2022 blockbuster hit, 'The Batman'. Reeves also confirmed that production on the sequel is set to begin in June.
Returning Cast and New Additions
Alongside Pattinson as Batman, the currently announced cast includes Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb (also known as The Penguin), Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez. Reeves revealed that additional casting announcements, likely involving new characters and major additions to the sequel, would follow on May 14.
Rumored Cast Members
Actors such as Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, and Charles Dance have been linked to the project, despite no official confirmation from the makers. Stan recently made headlines when he confirmed his entry into the DC Universe after his turn as the Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Production Teases and Setting
Earlier this month, Reeves shared a behind-the-scenes production tease from 'The Batman Part II', revealing testing footage involving the Batmobile. The post included the hashtag '#SnowTires', suggesting that the sequel will unfold during winter. The snowy setting has sparked buzz about the possible return of the iconic Batman villain Mr. Freeze. However, the possibility of the villain appearing remains uncertain, as Reeves reportedly stated that the sequel's central antagonist would be a villain who has not previously appeared in other Batman films. This has left the door open for other possible characters to make their DC debut.
Release Date
'The Batman Part II' is currently slated for release in October 2027. Fans can expect more updates as production progresses and additional casting announcements are made.
