Kochi: Two migrant workers were arrested with 19 kilograms of ganja from the Pattimattom-Choorakode area near Perumbavoor in a joint operation conducted by the police. The accused were identified as Rafiqul Molla, 22, and Mustafa Mondal, 30, both residents of Murshidabad in West Bengal.
Details of the Operation
The arrest was carried out by a special investigation team led by the Perumbavoor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) along with Kunnathunadu police. The operation followed a tip-off received by District Police Chief K S Sudarshan. According to the police, the accused were involved in supplying ganja in the area after sourcing it from Odisha.
Drug Trafficking Modus Operandi
As per the investigation team, the contraband was purchased at the rate of Rs 5,000 per kilogram and later sold locally for Rs 25,000 per kilogram. The ganja was packed in 1-kilogram and 2-kilogram packets for distribution to customers. Police also discovered that the accused had concealed the narcotic substance in a specially constructed hidden compartment inside a room to avoid detection during inspections.
Repeat Offender
Police revealed that Rafiqul Molla is a repeat offender and was previously arrested last year at Nedumbassery with 24 kilograms of ganja. The accused were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb drug trafficking in the region.
