The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially denied any data breach following what it described as repeated cyber attacks on its online portal over the past three days. The board has filed a complaint with the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of the Delhi Police.
Cyber Attacks on CBSE Portal
According to CBSE, the portal was launched on June 2, 2026, to facilitate services such as verification and re-evaluation of answer scripts for candidates who appeared in the Class 12 board examinations. The board stated that the portal was subjected to repeated and coordinated cyber attacks over three days, involving large volumes of malicious traffic originating from multiple IP addresses both within and outside the country.
In its complaint, CBSE emphasized that despite these malicious attempts, its systems and databases remain secure and uncompromised. The board confirmed that no data breach or unauthorized access has been detected.
Preliminary Investigation Findings
Preliminary investigations by authorities have corroborated CBSE's claims. According to Delhi Police sources, as reported by ANI, there was no evidence of a data breach within CBSE's systems during the attack.
Background: Scanned Answer Sheets Controversy
The cyber attack comes amid scrutiny of CBSE after several Class 12 students alleged that scanned answer sheets made available by the board did not appear to be written in their handwriting. This raised concerns about possible discrepancies in the Online Scanned Marksheet (OSM) system. In response to the controversy, the cabinet secretariat announced on Tuesday the appointment of a one-member committee to examine CBSE's procurement process for services related to the OSM system.
