NTA Assures Panel on NEET Leak Prevention

The National Testing Agency (NTA) informed a parliamentary committee on Friday that it is implementing measures to prevent a recurrence of the NEET paper leak, which has impacted lakhs of students. Simultaneously, the National Medical Commission (NMC) assured that it will work to maintain the admission seat matrix for counselling on schedule to avoid further disruptions for students.

CBI Director's Statement

During the committee meeting, CBI Director Praveen Sood stated that the probe agency will take its investigation to a logical conclusion, with the possibility of more arrests. Sources familiar with the matter disclosed this information.

Committee's Concerns and Actions

Although the committee's agenda focused on the NEET paper irregularities in 2024, members expressed deep concern over the latest leak, which led to the cancellation of the exam and a re-examination scheduled for June 21. They questioned officials about the ongoing investigations and measures being taken to make the examination process foolproof.

NTA's Proposed Solutions

The NTA, represented by Director General Abhishek Singh and other officials, announced that NEET will transition to a computer-based test (CBT) from next year. This change, combined with a significantly larger pool of questions, will result in multiple test papers akin to the JEE format, which is expected to minimize the risk of leaks.

Officials Present at the Meeting

Secretaries from the higher education and health ministries were among the officials who appeared before the committee, chaired by AIADMK's M Thambi Durai. Members of Parliament urged them to ensure that counselling occurs on time and that the seat matrix distribution across categories proceeds accordingly.

NMC's Assurance

NMC Chairman Abhijat Chandrakant Sheth assured the committee that appropriate measures will be taken to facilitate timely counselling.

Collaboration for a Secure System

The NTA also stated that it is actively consulting with other stakeholders to foster a more secure examination system.
