Bihar CM Prioritises Rural Road Widening for Economic Growth
Patna: Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday directed the rural works department (RWD) to give top priority to widening rural roads, aiming to meet the demands of a growing population and increasing goods traffic. Emphasising the transformative impact of better connectivity, he stated, "Improved road networks spur the rural economy and enhance access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities."
The Chief Minister was reviewing the RWD's plans and ongoing projects at Lok Sewak Niwas, his official residence. During the meeting, RWD Secretary Dewesh Sehra delivered a detailed presentation on the progress of various initiatives under the department.
Key Directives for Project Selection and Implementation
Choudhary instructed officials to prioritise new rural road projects based on public interest, sub-regional development needs, and local connectivity requirements. He urged them to "select projects accordingly, ensure timely completion with full transparency, and maintain quality standards." The Chief Minister underscored the importance of not only constructing new roads and bridges but also ensuring their proper upkeep.
He stressed that maintenance is equally crucial as new construction. The department was asked to monitor the condition of older roads, undertake strengthening work where necessary, and ensure that repairs to damaged rural roads are not delayed. This comprehensive approach aims to sustain the benefits of rural infrastructure over the long term.
Impact on Rural Development
The focus on rural road widening is expected to significantly boost the rural economy by facilitating smoother transportation of agricultural produce and goods. Improved connectivity will also help bridge the gap between rural and urban areas, providing residents with better access to markets, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities. The Chief Minister's directives align with the state government's broader vision of inclusive development and infrastructure modernisation.
