Ramanathapuram: Six people, including five women students, sustained injuries when a private college bus carrying 35 students overturned on the Ramanathapuram–Madurai National Highway near Ariyanenthal in Paramakudi taluk on Wednesday.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the bus belonged to Syed Ammal Arts and Science College, Kootampuli. It was transporting students from Ramanathapuram to Paramakudi, with Muthuperumal at the wheel. Preliminary investigations indicate that the bus lost control while navigating a stretch near Ariyanenthal. The vehicle veered off the road, slid into a roadside ditch, and collided with an electric pole before overturning and landing on its roof.
Five women students and the driver suffered minor injuries in the accident. Police personnel promptly arrived at the scene and facilitated the removal of the bus, restoring normal traffic flow. The injured were rushed to Paramakudi Government Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Narrow Escape for Another Vehicle
In a related development, a car approaching from the opposite direction narrowly avoided a major collision. The driver of the car swerved into a nearby ditch upon noticing the out-of-control bus, preventing a potentially catastrophic crash, police added.
Traffic on the busy national highway was briefly disrupted following the accident. Paramakudi taluk police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the mishap.
