The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation is developing a unique maze-themed Miyawaki park in the Kalindipuram area, spanning nearly 22 bighas at a cost of Rs 3.31 crore. The project aims to create a recreational hub where families can enjoy dense greenery and modern outdoor amenities.
Project Details and Design
The civic body has already invited bids for the work. The park will feature a labyrinth-style layout combined with Miyawaki plantation, a dense afforestation method using native species. Officials emphasize that the park is not just an attraction but also a measure to enhance the city’s green cover and support urban biodiversity.
The park design includes a network of pathways through thick plantation resembling a forest trail. Additional facilities include a yoga area, open-air gym, children’s play section, lawns, seating corners, decorative rock features, and raised landscaped sections. Toilets, urinals, bins, and solar-powered lighting will also be installed.
Ecosystem and Plantation Strategy
Vegetation will be planted in multiple layers—shrubs, smaller trees, larger trees, and canopy cover—to create a compact, self-sustaining ecosystem adapted to local climate. Municipal corporation executive engineer Anil Kumar Maurya, who conceived the project, said the site will offer visitors the feel of walking through a dense jungle rather than an ornamental park.
Previous and Upcoming Projects
Maurya noted that the corporation has already developed one Miyawaki park in Naini’s industrial zone, with another under preparation there. The Kalindipuram facility is expected to be the second maze park in Uttar Pradesh, following one at Rura in Kanpur.
