Toyota India has commenced deliveries of its new Urban Cruiser Ebella electric SUV, which was recently launched in the Indian market. The electric SUV is based on the Suzuki e-Vitara and shares most of its core components with its Maruti counterpart. This launch marks a key milestone for Toyota, as it enters India's mass-market EV segment with a mid-size electric SUV that will compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara.
Pricing and Variants
Toyota has priced the top-spec Ebella E3 at Rs 23.60 lakh (ex-showroom). Under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme, it offers an introductory vehicle price of Rs 15.25 lakh, with battery usage charged at Rs 4.99 per km. The Ebella is offered in three variants: E1, E2, and E3. The top-spec E3 is Rs 3.60 lakh costlier than the corresponding Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara variant, which is priced at Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). Toyota is yet to announce prices for the E1 and E2 trims.
Battery and Range
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is available with two battery pack options: a 49kWh or a 61kWh battery pack. The 49kWh battery comes paired with a single motor on the front axle, producing 144hp. The larger 61kWh battery also uses a single motor, but here it produces 174hp. Both motors generate an identical 189Nm of torque. The EV has a claimed range of 440 km with the 49kWh battery pack, while the larger 61kWh version is rated at 543 km on a single charge.
Features and Safety
Features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cloud-based navigation, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting with 12 color options, and ventilated front seats. Additionally, it offers wireless charging, a JBL sound system, automatic climate control, multiple USB ports, and an in-cabin air purifier. For safety, the model comes with seven airbags as standard, ABS, EBD, ESP, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS functions such as Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
