A tragic incident occurred in Palakkad on Tuesday morning when a 13-year-old boy drowned in the Kalpathy River while attempting to save his uncle who had slipped into the water while bathing. The deceased has been identified as Adarsh, son of Manoj, a resident of Peechiyachan Nagar, Kunnumpuram, Palakkad. Adarsh was a Class VIII student at St Thomas School, Railway Colony.
Incident Details
The incident took place around 10 am at the bathing ghat near Kundambalam. Adarsh had gone to the river along with his uncle from Chettitheruvu and a few other children from the locality. When his uncle began struggling in the water, the boy reportedly jumped in to rescue him without hesitation. While residents and others present at the spot managed to pull the uncle to safety, Adarsh was caught in the strong current and swept away.
Rescue Efforts
Fire and rescue services personnel were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene. They launched a search operation and eventually located the boy. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Family Background
Adarsh's family originally hails from Chettitheruvu and had been living on rent at Peechimman Nagar. He is survived by his father Manoj, mother Anu, and a younger brother. The family is grieving the sudden and tragic loss of the young boy, who was known for his bravery and willingness to help others.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers associated with water bodies, especially during the monsoon season when currents can be unpredictable. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and avoid risky behavior near rivers and other water bodies.
