A special court in Tirupur has sentenced 25 Bangladeshi nationals to two years of rigorous imprisonment for residing in India without valid travel documents or identity papers. The case was heard by Sessions Judge M Suresh, who found all accused guilty of illegal entry and illegal stay in the country.
Background of the Case
In June 2025, the Palladam police received a tip-off regarding a group of foreign nationals living illegally in the Karaipudhur area. Acting on this intelligence, a police team conducted a raid and detained 25 individuals. During verification, it was discovered that none of them possessed valid passports, visas, or Indian residency permits. Police also seized Bangladeshi national identity cards from the group.
Legal Proceedings
All 25 were arrested, and a case was registered under the relevant provisions of the Foreigners Act and passport rules. On Friday, the sessions court pronounced the verdict, sentencing each accused to two years of rigorous imprisonment. Public prosecutor A V Vivekanandan appeared for the prosecution.
Post-Sentence Actions
After serving their sentences, the convicted individuals will be deported to Bangladesh. The court’s decision underscores the strict enforcement of immigration laws in India.
