Prohibition enforcement wing (PEW) police seized 28 kilograms of ganja in two separate incidents across Erode and Krishnagiri districts on Thursday, resulting in the detention of four individuals.
First Incident at Erode Railway Station
In the first operation, PEW police conducted a search near the parcel office at Erode railway station after detaining two men on suspicion. An officer stated, "We seized 10 kilograms of ganja from a bag they were carrying." The accused were identified as Ronald Leoni, 27, and M Afzal, 19, both residents of Coimbatore. They were produced before the Erode district court and subsequently remanded to custody at the Coimbatore central prison.
Second Incident at Jujuwadi Check Post
In the second incident, PEW police intercepted a private bus operated by Sri Siddhan Travels at the Jujuwadi check post near Hosur in Krishnagiri district. The bus was traveling from Bengaluru to Madurai. During a thorough search, authorities discovered 18 kilograms of ganja concealed among the belongings of two passengers. The suspects were identified as Vishal, also known as Karthik, 19, and Vasantha Kumar, 20, both from Arapalayam in Madurai. According to PEW police, the two individuals, who worked as daily wagers, had smuggled the ganja from Bengaluru to Madurai. A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
These seizures highlight the ongoing efforts of the prohibition enforcement wing to curb drug trafficking in the region. The authorities continue to monitor suspicious activities and conduct regular checks at key transit points.
