The city of Ahmedabad recorded 2mm of rainfall on Thursday, as per data from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC). Across the state, 76 talukas experienced 1mm or more of precipitation, primarily after 6pm on Thursday.
Pre-Monsoon Showers Continue
Pre-monsoon activity persisted in various parts of Gujarat on Friday, with 51 talukas receiving at least 1mm of rainfall. While Ahmedabad did not witness any rain on Friday, the city experienced partly cloudy conditions.
Monsoon Progress Remains Stagnant
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the northern limit of the southwest monsoon has remained stationary at Harnai and Solapur in Maharashtra for the seventh consecutive day. Weather conditions are now considered favorable for the monsoon system to advance northward.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over southwest Madhya Pradesh, accompanied by an associated trough, influencing the weather in Gujarat.
Temperature and Humidity Trends
Despite the rainfall on Thursday night, the maximum temperature in Ahmedabad rose to 40.2 degrees Celsius on Friday, which is 2 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature settled at 26.8 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degrees below normal. On Saturday, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 40 degrees Celsius.
Relative humidity on Friday was high at 74% at 8:30 am, dropping to 37% by 5:30 pm. The IMD forecast indicates no significant change in maximum temperatures across Gujarat over the next seven days.
Rainfall Forecast for Gujarat
Over the coming days, several parts of the state, particularly south Gujarat and coastal Saurashtra, are likely to experience light to moderate rain, according to the weather department.
Only two locations in Gujarat recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius on Friday: Surendranagar at 40.3 degrees and Ahmedabad at 40.2 degrees.
