Andhra Weather: Heatwave and Thunderstorms Across State

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh on Friday experienced mixed weather conditions, with heatwaves, hot and humid weather in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squally winds in parts of Rayalaseema and north coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Heatwave Conditions in Coastal Andhra

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that Jangamaheswarapuram in Palnadu district and Narsapur reeled under heatwave conditions on Friday. Parts of the coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) region experienced hot and humid weather. According to the IMD, Jangamaheswarapuram was the hottest place in the state on Friday, recording a maximum temperature of 45°C. It was followed by Nandigama at 43.5°C, Gannavaram and Amaravati at 42.6°C each, Kakinada and Tirupathi at 41.2°C each, Tuni and Narsapur at 41°C each, and Machilipatnam at 40.4°C.

Relief in Rayalaseema

In contrast, the maximum day temperatures in parts of the Rayalaseema region dropped by 4-8°C on Friday due to thunderstorm activity on Thursday night and Friday afternoon. The maximum temperatures in the Rayalaseema region ranged between 35°C and 40°C. The rainfall activity brought much-needed relief to people in the Rayalaseema region from the scorching heat.

IMD Forecast for Coming Days

The IMD forecast that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Strong winds with gusty speeds reaching 50-60 km/h are likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema from May 23 to 26.
