Assam Workers Arrested With Heroin in Coimbatore

The Race Course police in Coimbatore on Friday arrested two guest workers hailing from Assam on charges of heroin possession. The accused have been identified as D Montu, 25, a resident of Lakhimpur district in Assam, and M Hari Medok, 27, from Dhemaji district in Assam. According to a police officer, the two men had been residing near a private hospital in Siddhapudur and were working as daily wage laborers in the city.

Details of the Arrest

Acting on a specific intelligence input regarding drug use in the area, law enforcement personnel conducted a search operation near New Siddhapudur on Friday. During the operation, the officers observed the two individuals behaving suspiciously. Upon searching them, the police recovered 30 milligrams of heroin from their possession.

The Race Course police subsequently registered a case under Section 8(c) read with Sections 22(a) and 29(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Following the arrest, the duo was produced before Judicial Magistrate III and remanded in judicial custody.

The police have stepped up surveillance to curb the movement of synthetic drugs and ganja within the city.
