Chhattisgarh continued to experience intense heatwave conditions on Monday, with Rajnandgaon recording the highest temperature in the state at a scorching 46.5 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to persist across parts of central and south Chhattisgarh for the next three days.
Temperature Records Across Districts
According to the IMD's Raipur weather bulletin, dry weather prevailed across the state while several districts continued to face heatwave conditions. The capital city Raipur recorded a maximum temperature of 45.1 degrees Celsius, which is 2.6 degrees above normal. The outskirts at Mana airport touched 45.7 degrees Celsius. Durg recorded 45.2 degrees Celsius, while Bilaspur matched Raipur at 45.1 degrees Celsius.
Northern Districts Offer Little Respite
Even traditionally cooler northern districts provided little relief from the heat. Ambikapur recorded the state's lowest minimum temperature at 24.7 degrees Celsius, indicating that even nighttime temperatures remain high.
Weather Forecast and Warnings
The weather department stated that there was no large change in maximum temperatures across the state in the past 24 hours. However, it warned that heatwave conditions are likely to continue at several places in central Chhattisgarh and isolated pockets of southern parts over the next three days.
Possibility of Thunderstorms
The IMD has also forecast isolated light rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at a few places. These weather phenomena are expected to be triggered by an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Bihar and a trough extending from Bihar to coastal Andhra Pradesh via Jharkhand and Odisha.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and follow safety precautions as the heatwave continues to grip the state.
