Crocodile kills 13-year-old boy in Haridwar pond

A 13-year-old boy was fatally attacked by a crocodile while bathing in a pond near Banjarewala village in Haridwar district, police confirmed on Friday. The victim, a Class VII student, had gone to the water body along the Sukro riverbed with friends on Thursday for a swim.

Incident Details

When the boy did not return home, his family initiated a search. On Friday morning, his mutilated body was discovered floating in the pond, causing panic among villagers. Buggawala police station in-charge Ankur Sharma stated, "The body has been handed over to the family after the autopsy. Preliminary investigation suggests the boy was dragged underwater by a crocodile, but confirmation is pending."

Forest Department Response

At the time of reporting, a forest department team had arrived at the scene and commenced a search operation to locate and relocate the reptile. Villagers noted that the Sukro river is seasonal, and sand and gravel mining in the riverbed often creates deep pits that fill with water, forming pond-like structures. Authorities are investigating the incident further and have urged caution in the area.
