Hyderabad: An Indian national who arrived from Bangkok was arrested after 10kg of hydroponic marijuana worth an estimated ₹3.5 crore was seized from his luggage at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Thursday.
Interception and Seizure
During an intelligence-based interception, officials of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Hyderabad Customs recovered nine black-coloured packets concealed inside clothes from his check-in baggage. The packets contained a greenish, lumpy substance with a strong pungent odour, officials said.
Drug Testing and Confirmation
The substance was subjected to a narcotic drug detection test and was found positive for marijuana, confirming it as a controlled substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Arrest and Legal Action
The passenger was arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended destination of the contraband.
This seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of Hyderabad Customs in curbing drug trafficking through the airport. The Air Intelligence Unit continues to monitor suspicious activities and conduct checks to prevent illegal narcotics from entering the country.
