In a tragic incident early Saturday, a jackal entered a house in Lakhinarayanpur village under Taranagar panchayat in Jharkhand's Pakur district and mauled a three-month-old girl to death, police said.
Incident Details
According to reports, Musfera Bibi, a resident of Ramchandrapur village, was staying at her maternal home with her children. At night, the jackal sneaked into the room and attacked the sleeping infant, family members said. After killing the baby, the jackal turned on three-year-old Yasmin Khatoon, who was also asleep in the same room. Yasmin's screams alerted family members, who rushed in and raised an alarm, forcing the jackal to flee.
Injuries and Response
Yasmin sustained minor injuries and was taken to Sadar hospital, where doctors said her condition is stable. A police team from Muffasil police station reached the village after being informed and initiated an investigation. Officers examined the infant's remains and recorded statements from family members.
Police Advisory
Gaurav Kumar, officer in-charge of Muffasil police station, said, 'Villagers have been advised to remain alert, especially at night when jackals stray into human habitation.' He added that forest officials would be informed to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
Background
The incident highlights the growing conflict between humans and wildlife in rural areas, where encroachment into natural habitats forces animals to venture into settlements. Authorities urge residents to secure their homes and report any sightings of wild animals.
