NEW DELHI: The national capital has been placed on high alert after intelligence inputs indicated a potential terror threat, leading the Delhi Police and other security agencies to step up surveillance across multiple sensitive locations. An official was quoted by PTI as saying, "Police have been directed to maintain strict vigil on suspicious movements, unattended objects, and vehicles parked in sensitive zones."
Security Measures Intensified
According to officials, security agencies have received alerts about possible attempts to target prominent offices and crowded areas in central Delhi through suicide attacks, vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (IEDs), shootings, and coordinated strikes. Security has been tightened around the headquarters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Marg and nearby government establishments. Additional armed personnel have been deployed, barricading has been reinforced, and vehicle checks have been enhanced.
Anti-Sabotage Operations Underway
Anti-sabotage inspections are being conducted at key government buildings, political offices, markets, transport hubs, and other crowded locations across the city. Bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog units, and quick reaction teams, along with the Delhi Fire Service, have also been placed on alert. Security measures have been further strengthened in settlements and areas considered vulnerable from a law-and-order perspective. Local police are carrying out random checking drives and verification exercises.
Senior officers are closely monitoring the situation and reviewing security arrangements throughout the city. This heightened alert comes in the wake of a tragic incident last year when at least 15 people were killed and over 20 injured in an explosion inside a car near the Red Fort on November 10. That incident marked the first terror attack in the national capital since 2011.
