Amravati: The skills of tribal and rural women from the remote Melghat region in Amravati district have received major international recognition. A saree from the 'Kutir' brand, crafted by the women of Kasturba Solar Khadi Mahila Samiti under the Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board's Decentralized Solar Charkha Cluster Programme, has made a mark globally.
Global Recognition at 'Live Well, Live Naturally'
At the 'Live Well, Live Naturally' programme held in Delhi, the elegant saree made from solar charkha fabric was presented to Barbara O'Neill, a well-known Australian health and natural lifestyle advocate. Impressed by the saree's excellent quality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship, O'Neill wore the same saree while addressing the audience at her major event in Mumbai.
Inspiring Success Story
Pradeep Chechare, District Village Industries Officer of Amravati, said, "From Melghat to the World is no longer just a dream. Woven by the hands of rural women, it has become an inspiring success story. The 'Kutir' brand has a new identity on the global stage."
The achievement highlights the potential of sustainable initiatives like the Solar Charkha programme in empowering women and promoting traditional craftsmanship. The saree's recognition by an international figure underscores the quality and appeal of products made through eco-friendly methods.
