Rae Bareli MCF Rolls Out First Vande Bharat Trainset, Boosts Production Capacity
Rae Bareli MCF Unveils First Vande Bharat Trainset

In a major milestone for Indian Railways, the Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Rae Bareli has rolled out its first Vande Bharat Express trainset. This achievement makes MCF the third facility in India to manufacture these semi-high-speed trains, joining Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and Kapurthala’s Rail Coach Factory (RCF).

Advanced Features of the New Trainset

The 16-coach train comes equipped with state-of-the-art features, including Siemens propulsion technology for improved energy efficiency and performance. The trainset boasts faster acceleration, allowing it to reach higher speeds more quickly, which reduces travel time on routes. Additionally, it is fitted with the Kavach safety system, an indigenous automatic train protection system designed to prevent collisions and enhance operational safety. Passenger comfort has been significantly improved with modern seating, better lighting, and advanced climate control. Accessibility features have also been enhanced to cater to passengers with disabilities, ensuring a more inclusive travel experience.

Boosting Production Capacity

The rollout of this trainset is expected to significantly boost India’s production capacity for Vande Bharat trains. With three manufacturing facilities now operational, Indian Railways can accelerate the nationwide deployment of these semi-high-speed trains, which are a key component of the government’s modernization plans. The increased output will help replace older, slower trains on major routes and expand the Vande Bharat network to more cities and regions.

The Modern Coach Factory in Rae Bareli was established to augment the production of modern coaches and has now demonstrated its capability to manufacture advanced trainsets. This development aligns with the government’s Make in India initiative, promoting indigenous manufacturing and reducing dependence on foreign technology. The Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, has been a flagship project for Indian Railways, offering faster, safer, and more comfortable travel options for passengers. With the addition of MCF, the production pipeline is set to ramp up, bringing more trains into service in the coming years.
