The Amritsar police have successfully dismantled a cross-border drug and arms smuggling module with the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of a significant quantity of contraband and sophisticated weapons. Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that the operation led to the recovery of 915 grams of ICE (methamphetamine) and five high-caliber pistols, including two 9mm Glock and three .30 bore pistols, along with two live cartridges.
Preliminary Investigation Findings
According to CP Bhullar, initial investigations have revealed that the arrested suspects were in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers via social media platforms. The contraband and weapons were being delivered using drones flown across the international border. The accused acted as local handlers responsible for the distribution of drugs and illegal arms within the region.
Modus Operandi
The probe has uncovered that the consignments of drugs and weapons were dropped in densely forested areas of the Ferozepur sector. The accused would retrieve these packages from the designated drop zones and subsequently supply them to various destinations across different areas. This method allowed them to evade detection and maintain a steady flow of illegal goods.
Legal Action
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act at Gate Hakima police station in Amritsar. The police are continuing their investigation to identify other members of the network and to trace the origins of the smuggled items.
The successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Amritsar police to combat cross-border smuggling activities that threaten national security and public safety. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on such illegal operations and bringing all perpetrators to justice.
