Andhra Pradesh Braces for Intensified Rainfall as Low-Pressure Area Likely to Form Over Bay of Bengal

Visakhapatnam, May 11: Amid prevailing hot and humid weather conditions in parts of Andhra Pradesh, rainfall activity is expected to intensify due to the likely formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. An upper air cyclonic circulation currently lies over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Sri Lanka, which is predicted to influence the development of a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 12, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Forecast

The weather agency has issued a forecast indicating that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP), Yanam, and Rayalaseema. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are also expected at isolated places over these regions on May 11. Similarly, thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places over CAP and Yanam, with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph predicted over CAP from May 12 to 13.

Temperature Trends and Recent Rainfall

As per the IMD, maximum temperatures slightly dropped in parts of the state on Sunday. A few areas in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district experienced moderate rainfall on Sunday evening. Kurnool emerged as the hottest location in the state on Sunday, recording a maximum temperature of 40.5°C. This was closely followed by Nandyal at 40°C, Kadapa at 39.8°C, Jangamaheswarapuram at 39.1°C, Nandigama at 38.6°C, Amaravati at 38.5°C, and Anantapur at 38.4°C.

Humid Conditions Cause Discomfort

People in several parts of the state experienced discomfort due to humid weather conditions. The prevailing weather led to sultry conditions in some coastal districts, with residents struggling to cope with the humidity. The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious and take necessary precautions as the weather pattern changes.
