Bihar Plans EV Charging Stations Along Highways at Dhabas

The state transport department of Bihar has decided to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along national and state highways at dhabas, hotels, motels, and petrol pumps. This initiative aims to strengthen the EV infrastructure in the state.

Meeting on Technical Standards

Transport Secretary Raj Kumar held a meeting on Friday with representatives of automobile companies, petroleum firms, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The discussions focused on technical standards, operations, and required facilities for the project.

Government's Priority

“Developing a strong charging network is the government’s priority to ensure seamless and convenient charging for the public. The central government will soon provide about 400 electric buses to the state,” Raj Kumar said. He added that the charging infrastructure would be fully prepared before the buses begin operation.

Digital Platform Integration

The department also plans to launch an integrated digital platform displaying locations of all EV charging stations through Google Maps. This will help users easily find charging points.

Coordinated Expansion

Officials directed companies to submit details and locations of existing and proposed charging stations for a coordinated expansion of the network. “EV charging stations will be set up in coordination with motor vehicle and oil companies,” Raj Kumar added.
