Chandigarh: Five Bangladeshi children who were discovered in border regions of Punjab in 2023 and subsequently placed in child care institutions have been safely repatriated to their home country, Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced on Friday.
Repatriation Process
The minister stated that the repatriation was executed after completing all legal and administrative procedures in coordination with the Bangladesh High Commission, the Ministry of External Affairs, and other relevant agencies. "After establishing the children's identities and verifying their families, the process was completed and they were sent back to Bangladesh, where they will reunite with their loved ones," she said.
Government Commitment
Dr. Kaur reiterated the Punjab government's dedication to protecting children's rights and ensuring that every child grows up in a caring family environment. During their stay in child care institutions in the state, the children were provided with education, healthcare, counseling, and other support to ensure their safety, dignity, and overall development, she added.
