NASHIK: Four people, including two teenagers, drowned during a picnic outing at the Kashyapi dam in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, police said on Wednesday.

Incident Details

The incident took place on Tuesday evening at the dam built on the Kashyapi river, a tributary of the Godavari, in Nashik taluka. The victims were identified as Sachin Kailas Thombre (30), his wife Rohini Thombre (25), and two boys from their neighbourhood — Ketan Anil Pawar (16) and Kaushal Anil Pawar (14). The couple had visited the reservoir along with their two-year-old daughter and the two teenagers.

Rescue and Recovery

Police said the exact circumstances that led to the drowning were not immediately known. According to officials, a passerby identified as Sangita Ghadge noticed the couple’s young daughter moving towards the reservoir and quickly rescued her. The child was reportedly crying “Mummy, Pappa” while pointing towards the water. After noticing footwear lying near the bank, Ghadge alerted local residents, who later recovered the bodies of the four victims from the reservoir.
