Panaji: The new building of the Goa state museum will be reconstructed within a year. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made this announcement on Monday, stating, "We will reconstruct the museum as soon as possible and exhibit its 10,000-odd artefacts."
Dedicated Gallery for Personal Collections
Speaking at the Museum Day celebrations at Goa Science Centre, Sawant added, "In addition, we will have a dedicated gallery for people to showcase their personal collections to the public." This initiative aims to encourage community participation and preserve local heritage.
Temporary Housing and Future Plans
The museum has been temporarily housed at the Adil Shah Palace in Panaji since 2017, after moving due to the deteriorating condition of its earlier building at Patto. The Adil Shah Palace will continue to be under the directorate of museums even after the shift to the new premises. The government also plans to support private museums with financial assistance, and all private museums are being mapped to make information available to the public on the government website.
Encouraging Public Engagement
Sawant urged parents to bring their children to the Goa Science Centre often, emphasizing the importance of cultural and scientific education. The reconstruction project is expected to boost tourism and provide a modern space for the state's rich collection of artefacts.
