IMD Issues Orange Alert for Thunderstorms in 17 Odisha Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday forecast light to moderate rain or thunderstorm activity in several districts of Odisha this week. An orange warning has been issued for thunderstorm activities accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph in at least 17 districts over the next three days starting Monday.

Yellow Warning for Other Districts

Additionally, a yellow warning has been issued for similar weather conditions in both coastal and interior districts, including Puri, Khurda, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur, until May 9.

Temperature Drop Expected

According to an IMD bulletin, day temperatures are expected to drop by three to four degrees Celsius over the next four days.

Recent Rainfall and Temperatures

In the last 24 hours, several places experienced light to moderate rain or thunderstorm activity. Chhatrapur in Ganjam district recorded the highest rainfall of 76.2 mm during this period. On Sunday, Boudh recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 41.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Bolangir and Jharsuguda at 40.2 degrees Celsius each. The city of Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 30.2 degrees Celsius.
