A delegation of Indian filmmakers and social media influencers recently visited Moscow at the invitation of the Moscow Film Cluster (Moskino), a city initiative that combines production facilities, educational programs, and tourism infrastructure centered around cinema. The delegation included Aditya Bhat, CEO of Jio Creative Labs, actress Ashnoor Kaur, and content creators Aarush Bhola and Varun Yadav. Each member explored Moscow from their unique perspective and returned with concrete ideas about potential collaborations stemming from this visit.
Moscow Film Cluster: A Hub for International Cooperation
This visit is part of Moscow's broader efforts to develop international cooperation in the film and content industry. The Moscow Film Cluster has evolved into a developed ecosystem that not only supports Russian filmmakers but also actively builds partnerships with foreign teams. Supported by the Moscow Government, the cluster introduced a rebate program in March 2025, following instructions from Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, allowing international projects to reimburse up to 45% of their filming expenses in Moscow.
Aditya Bhat: Strategic Opportunities for Indian and Russian Markets
Aditya Bhat, who leads one of Asia's largest media organizations, Jio Creative Labs, noted that the company has executed campaigns across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas, including local productions with Korean actors for international brands. According to Bhat, Russia fits into this logic: it has an audience, talent, and brands seeking entry into the Indian market. "We can create content with Russian actors for international brands and, in the same way, help Russian companies that want to speak to Indian audiences," he explained. Bhat emphasized that cooperation should extend beyond film or influencer content, as the most vibrant cultural exchanges happen through food, fashion, music, and theatre. In this context, Russia is not an exotic experiment but an important point on the map.
Ashnoor Kaur: Film and Tourism as a Unified Ecosystem
Ashnoor Kaur, who grew up on Bollywood film sets, was particularly impressed by the Moscow Film Cluster's practice of preserving sets after filming and turning them into tourist attractions. She found the idea of film and tourism working as a single ecosystem worthy of attention. "Every street, every lane here looks like a frame from a film," she said. In her view, Moscow is an ideal city for travel, fashion, and lifestyle content, making it a compelling reason for Indian creators to explore the Russian market.
Aarush Bhola: Bridging Social Media and Film
Aarush Bhola viewed Moscow through the lens of an ecosystem. "Many young people start with content on social media, but not everyone knows how to take the next step into film," he noted. According to him, the Moscow Film Cluster demonstrates how a city can structure that transition through access to education, mentorship, a production base, and industry connections. The first posts from the trip garnered millions of views even before the main content was released. "The audience was genuinely curious about Moscow, its culture, and its people, and we are very excited to share everything we filmed," Bhola added.
Varun Yadav: Comedy as a Universal Language
Varun Yadav sees Moscow as a great place for content creation due to its vast variety of visual and cultural experiences. Travel, lifestyle, fashion, and cultural storytelling all work naturally here. However, what intrigued him most was Russia's comedy scene. "Comedy brings people together regardless of language and culture, and if there is an opportunity to collaborate with Russian comedy stars, I am definitely open to it," he said. Together with Bhola, he filmed material across the city, and the audience's reaction has already been overwhelmingly positive.
Conclusion: Streaming Removes Language Barriers
The delegation's overall conclusion is clear: streaming has eliminated the language barrier, and now the quality of stories matters more than geography. Crime dramas, romance, and thrillers are genres that work equally well in Mumbai and Moscow. The Moscow Film Cluster's infrastructure, including the XOVP virtual production studio, educational programs, and preserved outdoor sets, is already ready to host joint projects.
