Indore Intensifies Pond Restoration Ahead of Monsoon

The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has ramped up efforts to dig and strengthen the Sirpur and Limbodi ponds in anticipation of the monsoon season. This initiative aligns with state-level directives on water preservation, focusing on restoring local water bodies, stepwells, and reservoirs before the rains arrive.

Inspection by Officials

During a recent inspection, district collector Shivam Verma and IMC commissioner Kshitij Singhal assessed the current water storage capacities, catchment areas, and inflow channels of the reservoirs. Verma instructed municipal officials to prioritize clearing all blockages, structural obstructions, and encroachments that hinder the natural flow of rainwater within the catchment zones.

Completed Desiltation Works

Singhal reported that desiltation and channel-clearing operations have already been completed across five major water networks: the Kelod Kartal channel, Morod Machla channel, Nipania lake channel, Bhawrasla pond channel, and Revati Range channel.

Ongoing Restoration

Restoration work is currently underway on five additional channels, including the Rao Bilawali network, the Limbodi lake inlet near Oyster, and the Sirpur lake channel.

Historical Stepwell Revival

A 900-year-old stepwell (baoli) in the Tillor Khurd panchayat, restored through community participation, was also unveiled. Built in Vikram Samvat 1184, this historical structure has been desilted and revived to function as a groundwater recharge infrastructure while preserving local heritage.
