Global Leaders Respond with Aid and Condolences
The United States has announced a whole-of-government response to the crisis. Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell said on Thursday that the Department of War stands ready to support the Venezuelan government, bringing airlift, logistics, and operational capabilities to help save lives. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that several countries, including Qatar, El Salvador, and Chile, are also contributing aid. He emphasized that the US military's logistics will be crucial because the airport in Caracas is damaged, with one runway cracked.
President of Chile Jose Antonio Kast Rist said he is managing the urgent sending of humanitarian aid and the deployment of rescue teams. In a post on X, he conveyed Chile's solidarity after speaking with Acting President Delcy Rodriguez. Similarly, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar expressed deepest condolences and said Israel is evaluating possibilities to provide aid. European Union and Other Nations Join Relief Efforts
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU is coordinating its response via the Civil Protection Mechanism, sending search and rescue teams and standing ready to offer more, including medical assistance. US President Donald Trump, speaking at a dinner with American farmers, said the US took over Venezuela in less than one day and that oil is flowing. He added that the US will help Venezuela after the massive earthquake.
Rubio further explained that after an initial assessment over the next 48 hours, authorities will identify long-term needs such as housing, communications restoration, and managing a surge of private donations. He noted that charities from the US, particularly from South Florida, are stepping forward to provide assistance. The US has also set up processes for American citizens in Venezuela to communicate if they need help.
