Jaishankar described his meeting with Lamichhane and his delegation as productive. In a statement, he said that the discussions centred on the India-Nepal development partnership and the close people-to-people connections that underpin bilateral ties. He emphasised that these elements play a crucial role in promoting growth and prosperity for both nations.
"A pleasure to meet Nepal's RSP chairperson Rabi Lamichhane and his delegation today in Delhi. Our discussions focused on the India-Nepal development partnership and people-to-people ties. These have a crucial role in promoting growth and prosperity," Jaishankar posted on social media after the meeting.
Engagement under 'Know BJP' Initiative
The visit was organised under the BJP's 'Know BJP' initiative, which aims to familiarise foreign political leaders and parties with the party's organisational structure, governance model, and political outreach mechanisms. During the discussions at the BJP headquarters, party national president Nitin Nabin highlighted the deep-rooted civilisational, cultural, and people-to-people links between India and Nepal. He stated that such exchanges help strengthen democratic dialogue and party-to-party engagement.
Detailed Briefings and Exchange of Ideas
Nitin Nabin briefed the Nepalese delegation on the BJP's ideological foundations, organisational structure, and grassroots mobilisation strategy. He explained how the party maintains a direct connection with citizens through its extensive cadre network. The RSP delegation sought detailed information about the BJP's membership drive, candidate selection process, and mechanisms for identifying and nurturing grassroots leaders. In turn, BJP leaders shared insights into the party's governance approach under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a focus on development, welfare delivery, and public outreach.
Focus on Gen Z's Role in Politics
According to BJP sources, both sides also discussed the growing role of Generation Z in politics and its potential impact on democratic participation and future leadership. This topic reflects a shared interest in engaging younger demographics in the political process.
Broader Context of India-Nepal Relations
The visit comes amid continued political engagement between India and Nepal, whose ties are anchored in deep historical, cultural, and economic linkages. Despite periodic differences over bilateral issues, both nations have maintained a strong foundation of cooperation. The meetings in Delhi underscore the commitment to further strengthening these bonds through dialogue and mutual understanding.
