Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Wednesday emphasized that collaboration with India is becoming increasingly important amid rising global uncertainties. She made the remarks during an informal press conference ahead of her visit to India, where she will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
Strategic Cooperation to Be Deepened
Takaichi stated that she intends to advance concrete cooperation with Modi, focusing on three key areas: deepening the strategic cooperative relationship between Japan and India, promoting cooperation in economic security, and fostering collaboration between companies of both countries toward investment and innovation. She noted that India shares fundamental values and strategic interests with Japan.
Economic Forum and Private Sector Involvement
The Japanese PM announced that during the visit, the Japan-India Economic Forum will be held with participation from over 150 individuals from Japan's business community. She said, "By uniting government and private sectors, we aim to broaden the scope of Japan-India cooperation and realize a strong economy."
Free and Open Indo-Pacific
Takaichi also highlighted India's role as a major democratic country in Asia, bearing responsibility for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. She intends to discuss efforts toward a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" (FOIP) with Modi, including within the framework of Japan, the United States, Australia, and India.
Personal Trust with PM Modi
Emphasizing the personal dimension, Takaichi said, "Since this visit is realized at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi, I see it as an opportunity to further deepen the personal trust relationship with Prime Minister Modi." She departed from Tokyo earlier in the day for Delhi to attend the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit.
