The Jharkhand government has announced a significant expansion of the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Overseas Scholarship scheme for the 2026-27 academic session, doubling the number of available seats from 25 to 50. This initiative aims to enhance educational opportunities abroad for students from tribal, scheduled caste (SC), scheduled tribe (ST), backward class, and minority communities.
Key Changes in the Scholarship Scheme
Tribal Welfare Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary confirmed that the number of academic disciplines eligible under the scholarship has been expanded from 31 to 39. The application process will commence on May 14 and conclude on June 20, as notified by the SC, ST, Minority and Backward Class Welfare Department.
Seat Distribution and Eligible Courses
For the current cycle, 50 students will be selected for one-year postgraduate courses, including MA, MRes, MPhil, and MBA programmes at designated institutions in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The seat allocation is as follows:
- Scheduled Tribes (ST): 20 seats
- Scheduled Castes (SC): 10 seats
- Backward Classes: 14 seats
- Minority Communities: 6 seats
Scholarship recipients will receive financial assistance to study at elite institutions such as the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, and the London School of Economics (LSE), among others.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the 2026-27 session, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in their bachelor’s degree.
- At least two years of teaching or professional work experience in their relevant subject.
- Age not exceeding 35 years as of April 1, 2026.
- Valid residential certificate proving Jharkhand residency.
- Total annual family income not exceeding Rs 12 lakh.
- Only one child per family is eligible, and the benefit can be availed only once for any specific course.
Application Process
Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the official portal at www.mgos.jharkhand.gov.in. Commissioner Chaudhary stated, “Applicants are required to upload their offer letters from the respective UK institutions and any relevant documents concerning their teaching or professional work experience during the online process.”
