Kanpur Metro: Final Phase of Corridor-1 Extension to Naubasta Underway
Kanpur Metro Corridor-1 Extension to Naubasta Final Phase

The preparations for extending passenger services on Corridor-1 (IIT–Naubasta) of the Kanpur Metro Rail project from Kanpur Central to Naubasta have entered their final phase. Two underground stations—Jhakarkati and Transport Nagar—and five elevated stations—Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Bauddh Nagar, and Naubasta—are being readied with a strong focus on passenger convenience and safety.

Installation of Signage and Digital Displays

As part of these final preparations, passenger guidance signages have been installed across all seven stations. These newly installed signages will assist passengers in locating key facilities such as entry and exit gates, ticket counters, platforms, and other important station areas. In addition, Public Information Display Systems (PIDS) have also been commissioned to enhance the travel experience and provide real-time information to commuters. Through these digital displays, passengers will be able to view real-time information such as the arrival time of the next train, platform details, and other important announcements. The displays will also show countdown information indicating the remaining time until the next train arrives.

Awaiting CMRS Approval

Following the upcoming inspection and approval by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), passenger services are expected to be extended from Kanpur Central to Naubasta in the coming days. Accordingly, all essential passenger-related arrangements are being finalised. Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), stated, “Before the commencement of passenger services, the entire section will undergo a comprehensive inspection as per the prescribed process by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) and the inspection team. Once all safety and operational standards are duly verified and approvals are obtained, passenger services from Kanpur Central to Naubasta will be formally inaugurated.”
