Aizawl: District administrations across all 11 districts of Mizoram are nearing the completion of biometric enrolment for over 31,200 refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh, as confirmed by state home department officials on Sunday.

Enrolment Progress by District

According to officials, 29,047 Myanmarese and 1,447 Bangladeshi refugees have been biometrically enrolled so far. Hnahthial, home to 622 Myanmar refugees, has reached 90.51% enrolment.

Rice Distribution Initiatives

Several district administrations have begun free distribution of rice to refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Lawngtlai district deputy commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga announced that distribution will commence on Tuesday. However, Kolasib district officials plan to conduct a fresh census before distributing rice, citing frequent changes in IDP numbers. District deputy commissioner H Dotinbuaia noted that many IDPs are eager to return to Manipur.
