On a recent breezy evening, a group of youngsters carried out a messy but clean initiative along the banks of the Mula river in Pune. Dressed in white t-shirts, they did not hesitate to get their hands dirty, all for a cleaner city.
Cleanup Drive Collects 600 kg of Waste
According to Ritwik Dhanwat, organizer of the event, the cleanup drive near Baba Bhide bridge resulted in the collection of 30 bags of waste weighing approximately 600 kg. He emphasized that this will be a continued effort from their side.
Three-Step Focus
“The drive focused on three steps — what is expected, what we have done, and what more can be done. We have requested authorities to help keep vigilance in the area to avoid littering and any unsocial activities. We will also be doing a similar drive again soon,” said Ritwik Dhanwat.
Participants Inspired by Global Examples
Shivanjali Nivekar, a participant, shared that cleanliness in other countries inspires many, including her. “Why should we lack on that front? Instead of waiting for someone to take action, I think it’s better to take initiative,” she said. Another participant, Ravi Sawant, suggested that such initiatives should be taught in schools so the next generation grows up cautious about taking care of the environment.
