BrahMos Aerospace Chief Jaiteerth Joshi announced on Thursday that Russia has expressed keen interest in inducting the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile into its armed forces. Speaking in Nagpur after the flagging off of the 100th indigenous booster manufactured by Solar Industries India Ltd, Joshi revealed that Moscow conveyed its interest despite having established industrial partners associated with the BrahMos programme.
Talks Underway for BrahMos Induction
Joshi stated, "That's what they have told..... My joint managing director has committed that government of Russia is keen on taking, but they have their own established industry partners." He added that Russia wants to increase the requirement as per the present scenario and that discussions are ongoing. "We are in talks with them," he said, as reported by ANI.
Indian Industry to Augment Production Capacity
The aerospace chief indicated that Indian industry needs to work alongside Russian partners to augment production capacity and support future supplies. "They have the facility, but that facility may not be enough. To augment that, we will work hand in hand, and we will supply it from India," Joshi said, suggesting a larger role for Indian manufacturing in future BrahMos production.
Operation Sindoor Boosts Global Confidence in BrahMos
Highlighting the missile's growing international reputation, Joshi noted that BrahMos has earned credibility through 25 years of development, testing, and operational deployment. He referred to the missile's operational use during Operation Sindoor, describing it as a significant milestone. According to Joshi, this operation marked the first time a BrahMos missile was effectively validated in a live combat scenario rather than through simulations or test launches. The success of the operation enhanced confidence among potential international buyers and demonstrated the missile's capabilities in real-world conditions.
Jointly developed by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOM), BrahMos has emerged as one of India's most significant defence export prospects.
