At least six people, including three members of a family, were killed and three others injured after severe thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, high winds, and rain swept through the Prayagraj region on Thursday night. The storm caused widespread destruction and significant damage to buildings and infrastructure across the affected areas.
Casualties Across Districts
The casualties included four deaths in Kaushambi district and one each in Prayagraj and Pratapgarh districts. Relief and rescue operations are currently underway in the affected regions as authorities assess the full extent of the damage.
Kaushambi: Family of Three Killed
In Kaushambi district, three members of a family lost their lives when a heavy tree branch fell on their house late Thursday night. The deceased were identified as Maya Devi (28) and her two children, Anubhav (3) and Shweta (5), residents of village Duni Tiwari Ka Purwa Mazra under Paschim Sarira police station limits. Another child, Ankush (8), sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital for treatment.
In a separate incident in Kaushambi, Chandrabhawan Gautam (51), a resident of Paharpur under Mohabbatpur Painsa police station, died after being trapped under a tin-shed structure where he was sleeping.
Pratapgarh and Prayagraj Deaths
In Pratapgarh district, Phoolkali (81) was killed in ward no. 11, Fatoohabad under Maheshganj police station when she was trapped under a tin shade and a pillar damaged by the storm. In Prayagraj, VK Singh (55) died in Subhash Nagar under Koraon tehsil after being trapped under debris from a collapsed balcony while sleeping under a tin shade.
Other Injuries and Damage
Two women sustained injuries when they were trapped under the debris of a kaccha house in the Meja area. The severe storm also uprooted hundreds of trees, damaged many houses and electric poles, and caused multiple wall collapse incidents across the region.
Weather Relief and Problems
The late-night thunderstorm, accompanied by rain, brought down temperatures, offering major respite to citizens from the scorching sun and heat wave. However, it also caused waterlogging and other problems for locals on Friday morning as they dealt with the aftermath of the storm.
