Ten Injured as Bus Hits High-Tension Wire in Dumka

Dumka: Ten people suffered burn injuries after a bus carrying wedding guests came in contact with a high-tension overhead wire near Saraydaha village in Dumka district on Tuesday, police said.

Incident Details

The injured, six wedding guests and four band members, were admitted to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital, Dumka. Officer in-charge of the Shikaripara police station, Amit Lakra, provided details of the incident.

Sequence of Events

“The wedding procession of Bablu Pahadiya, a resident of Basikundi village in Pakuria police station limits of Pakur district, was travelling to Bhuski Pahari village in Dumka district in two buses. Both buses stopped for refreshments about 4 km before reaching the bride’s house. Thereafter, one bus moved ahead with around 20 people, including some band members, dancing on top of the bus. They came in contact with the overhead wire. Area residents shifted the injured to hospital,” Lakra said.

“The bus has been seized. Investigation is under way,” he added.

Medical Response

All injured individuals are receiving treatment at the medical college hospital. Authorities are monitoring their condition.
