Thundershowers Bring Relief to Trichy, More Rain Predicted

Trichy: Thundershowers swept across several parts of Trichy city on Saturday, offering much-needed relief to residents from the oppressive summer heat. The gusty winds accompanied by moderate rainfall caused a brief suspension of electricity, which was later restored.

Rainfall Distribution Across Trichy

Most parts of the city, including Sanjeevi Nagar, Rockfort, Cantonment, and Thillai Nagar, experienced moderate to heavy rainfall. However, peripheral localities such as Thiruverumbur saw comparatively lighter spells. The summer showers began around 2:30 pm and continued in some areas beyond 4 pm. Low-lying areas in Palakkarai, Cantonment, and Thillai Nagar cross streets experienced temporary waterlogging.

Weather System Behind the Change

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the shift in weather patterns to a well-marked low-pressure area persisting over the southwest Bay of Bengal. The cloudy and pleasant weather led to a substantial drop in daytime temperatures. The maximum temperature recorded in the city was around 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature dropped to 26 degrees Celsius as of Saturday evening. IMD data showed that the departures from normal maximum and normal minimum in Trichy were minus 2.9 degrees Celsius and minus 0.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
