Historical Context
In the 2021 assembly elections, S Sudharsanam of the DMK had won the Madhavaram seat with 1,51,485 votes, defeating AIADMK's V Moorthy, who secured 94,414 votes, by a margin of 57,071 votes. Prior to that, in 2016, Sudharsanam again emerged victorious with 1,22,082 votes, defeating AIADMK's D Dhakshnamoorthy, who polled 1,06,829 votes, by a margin of 15,253 votes.
