The Madhya Pradesh High Court has transferred a suo motu petition concerning the cutting, sale, and transportation of Baobab trees in Dhar district to the green bench for hearing. The division bench, headed by Acting Chief Justice Vivek Rusia and comprising Justice Pradeep Mittal, made the decision on Thursday.
Court's Observation
During the hearing, the bench observed that since the matter pertains to tree cutting and environmental issues, it would be appropriate for the green bench to hear the case. Consequently, the court transferred the case to bench number two.
Background of the Case
The High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of a media report alleging illegal cutting, sale, and transportation of Baobab trees in Dhar district. The court had previously stayed all such activities. Baobab trees are considered among the most precious trees globally, with market prices reaching lakhs of rupees.
