Delhi Weather Update: Cold Nights Ahead with Temperature Dip to 6-9°C
Residents of New Delhi should prepare for colder nights as the minimum temperature is forecasted to drop significantly, ranging between 6 and 9 degrees Celsius over the coming two days. This shift follows the conclusion of a western disturbance, which had previously influenced the region's weather patterns.
Fog and Rainfall Predictions for the Capital
Parts of Delhi are likely to experience dense fog on Thursday morning, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for moderate to dense fog conditions. Additionally, the city is expected to receive rainfall during the weekend, starting from Saturday afternoon.
According to a Met official, "As the influence of a western disturbance is over, the wind direction changed to cold northwesterly winds from snow-capped mountains. This change is likely to cause a noticeable dip in the minimum temperature."
Detailed Temperature and Weather Forecast
On Wednesday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 12.6 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above the normal level, compared to 8 degrees on Tuesday. Looking ahead, the minimum temperature is predicted to fall to between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, with a slight increase to 7-9 degrees on Thursday, and remaining at 6-8 degrees on Friday.
The maximum temperature on Wednesday was 18.4 degrees Celsius, marking four degrees below the normal range. For Thursday, the daytime temperature is expected to stay within 17-19 degrees Celsius.
Weekend Weather: Rain and Thunderstorms Expected
Although no rainfall was observed on Wednesday, the IMD has indicated that another western disturbance is likely to impact the Delhi region from Saturday. The forecast includes cloudy skies from Saturday afternoon, with the possibility of very light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph towards the night. One or two spells of light rain are also likely on Sunday.
Air Quality Index (AQI) Trends
The air quality in Delhi showed a slight improvement on Wednesday, with the AQI dipping from 336 in the very poor category to 255 in the poor range. This change was attributed to light rain that occurred on Tuesday. However, the AQI is expected to remain in the poor category on Thursday and may worsen again to very poor levels on Friday and Saturday.
In summary, Delhi is set for a period of colder nights, foggy mornings, and potential rainfall, with fluctuating air quality conditions over the next few days. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
