The decomposed remains of a young farmer from Karnataka were discovered in the dense Soodachandram forest area of Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, revealing a tragic wildlife encounter that ended a life prematurely. Forest department officials confirmed that the victim, identified as Sasikumar, aged 31, from Bhimekaundan Thotti in Ram Nagar district of Karnataka, succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent confrontation with a wild elephant on January 15.

Upon locating the body, forest department personnel immediately alerted the Thally police station, initiating a coordinated response. Police officers swiftly arrived at the scene, conducted a thorough investigation, and successfully identified the deceased as Sasikumar, who had been reported missing since mid-January. The body was subsequently transported to the Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital for a comprehensive postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy
Sasikumar had traveled to the Shankarappa temple located in Thalidevara Petta village near Hosur on January 14 for a spiritual darshan. According to police officials, he spent the night at the temple premises and embarked on his journey back home the following morning. During his return, he ventured into the forest area, where the fatal encounter with the wild elephant occurred.
Family's Anguish and Missing Person Report
The distressing situation unfolded when Sasikumar's father, Bhimegaudu, attempted to contact him via cell phone. Sasikumar informed his father that he was stranded in the forest and unable to return home as planned. Shortly after this communication, his phone became unreachable, heightening concerns. Bhimegaudu promptly filed a formal complaint with the Aravalli police station in Karnataka on January 16, leading to the registration of a missing person case as authorities launched search operations.
