On January 25, coastal Goa witnessed daytime temperatures that exceeded the usual seasonal norms, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Observations from key weather stations in Panaji and Mormugao revealed a consistent pattern of warmer conditions during the day, with some interesting variations in nighttime readings.
Daytime Temperatures Significantly Above Average
The IMD data highlights that maximum temperatures across the region were notably higher than expected for this time of year. In Panaji, the observatory recorded a peak temperature of 33.7°C, which represents a deviation of 1.4 degrees above the seasonal average. Similarly, Mormugao registered a maximum of 33.2°C, approximately 1.7 degrees above the normal range for late January.
Mixed Trends in Minimum Temperatures
While daytime conditions were uniformly warm, the nighttime temperatures presented a more complex picture. Panaji reported a minimum temperature of 20.2°C, which was only marginally above the average by 0.3 degrees. In contrast, Mormugao experienced a cooler minimum of 19.6°C, nearly 2 degrees below the normal level, indicating a sharper drop in temperatures after sunset.
Relative Humidity Levels Slightly Lower
Accompanying these temperature trends, relative humidity measurements showed a slight decrease compared to typical values. Panaji recorded a humidity level of 77%, while Mormugao stood at 72%, both figures being somewhat lower than the usual readings for the coastal region during this period.
The IMD's observations underscore the variability in Goa's weather patterns, with daytime warmth contrasting with mixed nighttime conditions, potentially influenced by local coastal factors and seasonal transitions.
