Thiruvananthapuram Launches Green Protocol Drive Ahead of Attukal Pongala Festival
In preparation for the Attukal Pongala festival scheduled for Tuesday, Thiruvananthapuram has initiated a comprehensive awareness campaign to enforce strict adherence to green protocol. The campaign was officially launched on Saturday with the flagging off of an LED display vehicle by Mayor V V Rajesh and Attukal Temple Trust President V Shobha.
Campaign Vehicle to Educate Stakeholders
The LED vehicle, operated by the Suchitwa Mission, is equipped with guidelines specifically designed for drinking water and food distributors, voluntary organizations, and devotees. This mobile unit will traverse various parts of the city, screening awareness videos and displaying crucial instructions related to waste management and hygiene practices.
Key Green Norms Emphasized
The campaign underscores the importance of following green norms to ensure the festival is conducted in an environmentally responsible manner. Key messages include:
- Proper waste disposal techniques to prevent littering.
- A total ban on the use of plastic items during the festival.
- Segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at the source to facilitate recycling.
Officials have stated that the initiative aims to sensitize stakeholders and the public well in advance. This proactive approach is intended to prevent environmental degradation that could result from the large-scale participation expected during the festival.
Call for Cooperation
Authorities have urged devotees and service providers to actively cooperate in making the Attukal Pongala a model green event. By adhering to the green protocol, the community can contribute to a sustainable celebration that minimizes ecological impact.
The campaign represents a significant step towards integrating environmental consciousness into traditional festivities, setting a precedent for future events in the region.
